An Overview of UL Labels
Control technology used in the U.S. and Canadian markets is subject to countless regulations that must be complied with. To import, market, or install your control cabinets in these countries
To achieve this, all materials, components, and the final product itself must be tested for operational safety in accordance with UL standards. Testing against the minimum safety requirements of the IEC standard is not sufficient for approval in the U.S. and Canadian markets! We at Krayer Systemtechnik are UL-certified and therefore trained to develop and manufacture control systems in accordance with the UL 508A standard. We label all control systems we produce with the so-called UL Panel Labels from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). This ensures a smooth commissioning of your machine or system in the U.S. or Canada.
The Right Label for the Right Application
There are three different UL labels for control and switchgear cabinet construction: the “Industrial Control Panel Enclosure,” the “Open Industrial Control Panel,” and the “Enclosed Industrial Control Panel.” It is important to ensure that the correct UL label is affixed. Failure to do so can result in high costs during commissioning and thus prevent your machine or system from being put into operation. Industrial Control Panel Enclosure An Industrial Control Panel Enclosure is the empty control cabinet housing, possibly with an unassembled mounting panel. The nameplate with the UL logo is typically located on the inside of the cabinet door. Open Industrial Control Panel The Open Industrial Control Panel is the fully wired mounting panel. The nameplate with the UL logo is clearly visible on the front of the mounting panel. In this case, the enclosure is not part of the certification. Enclosed Industrial Control Panel The Enclosed Industrial Control Panel is the complete version consisting of the control panel enclosure and the fully equipped and installed mounting plate. This certification is ultimately a combination of the two individual certifications mentioned above. Here, too, the future nameplate and the UL logo are preferably located on the inside of the cabinet door.
